The Conference Board creates and disseminates knowledge
about management and the marketplace to help businesses
strengthen their performance and better serve society.
Working as a global, independent membership organization
in the public interest, we conduct research, convene conferences,
make forecasts, assess trends, publish information and analysis,
and bring executives together to learn from one another.
The Conference Board is a not-for-profit organization and holds
501 (c) (3) tax-exempt status in the United States.
Survey Participant Profile
A total of 75 organizations responded to the survey, with
78 percent indicating that they had or were going through
a “supply chain transformation.” This report is based upon
the responses from that group. All the companies are
headquartered in the United States, except for one major
U.S.-based division of a European company.

About the Author
Anna S. Powell is senior research associate at the
Board, where she has published a number of reports in
performance excellence and operations management,
including People Practices in Baldrige Companies, Quality
Outlook, and TQM and Environmental Management. She
has also planned programs and managed a series for
members of the Global Center for Performance Excellence.
Prior to the Board, she worked in policy analysis. She holds
a B.A. and M.A. in political science from the University of
Hawaii, and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School.
